Pescia Romana is 12 km north of Montalto di Castro, on the Tuscan border (closest town: Capalbio). Pescia Romano is split into two 'districts': the “Il Borgo Nuovo” (new town), “il Borgo Vecchio” (old town) plus several villas dotted around the surrounding countryside.
While Montalto became part of the dukedom of Castro under the Family Orsini in 1300, Pescia Romana stayed under the sway of the Vatican and was sold to the Boncompagni-Ludovisi family in 1820 until the 1920s.
Originally a marshland, it was drained by Mussolini and is now extremely fertile, meaning that Pescia Romana is well known for the quality of its local produce.
Thousands of tourists enjoy the 8 km of natural beaches, plus the many tourist attractions in the area: Argentario, Capalbio, Saturnia, Vulci Nature Reserve, Burano Nature Reserve, the "Giardino dei Tarocchi" theme park, and Vulci (nature reserve, museum and digs). |
